The long, shapely “boot” of Italy penetrates the Mediterranean sea from southern Europe, from the snowy Alps in the north, through the “Riviera” coastline, the watery island city of Venice, the eternal city of Rome, the fragrant fields of Tuscany down to the craggy southern coastal area. Italy has style and culture, has spawned emperors more

Punta Prosciutto, one of the gems of Puglia, Italy. - Silvia. Date of travel: Jul 2008
Punta Prosciutto is in the south of Italy. It is beautiful and it is still wild and affordable. Puglia is the "heel" of the boot, the region who faces Greece. Italians and foreigners are starting to rediscover it, due to wild, crystal clear sea and precious white traditional cities. Go for a road trip along the coast and discover the area called Salento. You could start your adventure in Lecce, one of the most beautiful Italian cities, with antique ruins and a whole ampitheatre where plays and shows are still set. Then go down the coast and discover the beaches towards south, where you reach Otranto, another Italian gem stone. Continue your trip down to Santa Maria di Leuca, lovely village close to what they call the Maldives of Italy. Continue the adventure following the coast up north to Gallipoli, where the best night clubs are based. The real discovery I made during my trip though was thanks to a suggestion from a friend. It is the wild beaches of Punta Prosciutto. No mass tourism, no large resorts, no fancy clubs. Only pure beautiful beaches, with little small bars every now and then and a couple of windsurfs in the water. Very, very special! Not to forget! the food is amazing, simple and tasty! Bella Italia - Anne Kraemer. Date of travel: Jun 2007
We were in Sorrento (really nice shops and beautiful wood inlay), Pompei, Paestum, the Mt. Vesuvius, Herculaneum, Naples (it's really loud and crowded) and the the famous and amazing amalficoast (nice Ceramics). We rented an English speaking driver (born and raised in Naples: Giuseppe) to have the most comfort. He guided us also and told us a bit of everything. I went on the journey with my husband, my two boys (1and 3 years old) and my parents. The same driver picked us up in Naples from the airport. He got a big van with air conditioning: it was so hot!!! And seats for the kids, the streets are very small. So we felt quiet safe and comfortable. I lost the telephone number you can find him on the Internet: sorrentotopcar.com. And if you go there don't miss Positano!!!

Sorrento has wonderful shops and a great base for touring. Loved the visit to Capri but remember that the centre is at the top and not just when you get off the ferry!!!

We love Italy and have had some many awesome experiences there. Unfortunately, the apartment we stayed in (Elvira) was not one of them.

We loved Pompeii!!! - Louise Hoar. Date of travel: Aug 2006
The area we stayed in was absolutely fantastic. We were 100 metres from the entrance to the site, and there were lots of nice restaurants around. We ate in Zi Caterina which is a family run restaurant, and I had the most marvellous fish in there. Fabio is great. He will show you differrent starters and explain all to you. Pricey but very good. Also there is a taxi driver called Enzo. he is brilliant and will tell you all the facts about Pompeii as he drives you around. Quite reasonable prices too. Very friendly man. He was used by our hotel but we hired him to take us to Vesuvius. We seem to have mislaid his mobile no but please email us because no doubt when I have posted this I will find it. The man is a legend! Tour Operator: Did it myself

We have spent the most enjoyable week in Sant Agnello just outside of Sorrento. We stayed in the Grand Parco Del Sole, a 4 star hotel, and it was magnificent. The food was really good the staff excellent, the pool was clean and very well looked after. There is nothing we can say about this holiday that was bad (except the traffic: it is terrible and even though my husband is a lorry driver he would not drive here as there are scooters everywhere you look, but that was the only bad point). The place itself was beautiful. We went to Capri and Pompeii and it must be the very best holiday we have ever had. The hotel we stayed at is not for children though. We will definitely go back. Visited and have worked in Sorrento - Neopolitan riviera - upmarket resorts for clients wanting to see the historical sites, pompeii, rome, vesuvius etc - very beautiful scenically with spectacular cliff top settings for most towns - also suits honeymooners - beaches are rocky and small but you can also get to the islands of Capri and Ischia where you find traditional long sandy beaches. Food is fab - if you like Italian - loads of excellent pizza/seafood/pasta restaurants and the most amazing array of ice cream flavours - also try local fire water called limoncello. Various trips available from Sorrento base including Rome (3hours away) Naples (1 hour) Capri - 20 min ferry ride and the volcano of Vesuvius which is still live!! Hotels standards good mainly 3 star and above always worth paying the extra for a seaview room here some hotels are on steep hills above the town itself but lots of minibuses take tourists up and down - unless they want to hire a moped of course!! We recently spent three nights in a lovely B&B in the Cinque Terre area (Levanto), “L’Antico Borgo. It's located outside of the town, about 10 minute by car, in a quite and panoramic place. Beautiful, large, clean rooms with nice views, great breakfasts in the terrace, delightful, friendly, host. They gave us directions to everywhere and helped us with everything! We hated to leave! We would recommend a stay here to anyone.

We stayed in the Hotel Brione in Riva Del Garda. It was fantastic, the best holiday i have had. The hotel was clean, good quality food and plenty of it, rooms are just basic though. Resort has so much to offer, plenty of sunbathing in the day or you could try sailing, windsurfing, jet skiiing or you can just enjoy the cafe culture. Theres definitely something for everyone there. Locals are very friendly, English is widely spoken. I visited the other resorts around the lake and although they were very nice, Riva has the most to offer and a cooling breeze which the others dont have. Tour Operator: Travelsphere
